Pre-AP Chemistry
Instructor: Mr.
Ashford
Classroom: B12
Website:
www.ashfordweb.com
Plan: 5th Period
Course Description
This class serves to prepare the student for AP Chemistry, a
college-level chemistry class that ends with an examination. In certain
cases, success on the AP exam can result in college credit. The class
will be fast-paced and requires a commitment by the student to use
class time wisely and to complete homework assignments. Topics will
include the structure and properties of matter; chemical reactions;
stoichiometry; thermochemistry; periodic properties of elements;
chemical bonding; molecular geometry; and intermolecular forces.
Hands-on experiments will be used to help students gain better insights
into these topics.
Make-Up Work
It is the student's responsibility to get all missed assignments and/or
information. Upon returning from an absence, check the “While you were
out” folder to see what you missed. If you have an excused absence, you
have one day to complete missed assignments for each day of absence.
Assignments may be turned in ONE day late for a maximum score of 50%.
No assignments will be accepted if more than one day late. For some
major projects and assignments, no late work will be accepted.
Should a student score below 70% on a chapter or unit test, he/she will
have the opportunity to take an alternative test (test retake) and can
make a maximum score of 70%. Make-up tests (for students who were
absent) and test retakes will be different from the classroom test and
the student will need to get with Mr. Ashford to schedule a time
outside of regular class time to make up or retake tests. Test retakes
must be completed within one week from the time that the student
receives their original test results.
